The Traxxas X-Maxx 1/6 8S Monster Truck with belted tires is an absolute beast of an RC vehicle, designed to conquer the most extreme terrain with its mammoth size and unrelenting power. The size, the speed for its size, the suspension, how it handles. It can definitely take a beating. It’s handled some pretty intense tumbles a few times that wouldve broken my Traxxas Slash 4×4. It’s definitely built TOUGH. The MAXX name is no joke! And it comes with all the telemetry bells and whistles which is cool to mess around with.
The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is pretty simple – and many people know this. The gears. Mine havent stripped (yet) but it seems to be the most common issue with these trucks. And, on the other side of that coin.. is Traxxas themselves selling spare parts and “upgrades” for design flaws or problems they themselves allow these their products to have, presumably to sell you spare parts. It’s pretty wicked, honestly. Nonetheless, it’s a great truck and right off the bad I highly recommend getting a better spur and pinion gear set, as well as the control arm bolts all around. It should last you a lifetime with proper maintenance. 2 customers found this review helpful. I drove it and when I hit the brakes it made a crackling sound and then it wouldn’t run. I contacted there customer service and there shipping me a new set of gears. If I don’t fix it myself I’ll have to pay somebody to fix it. For a product to be so expensive, it shouldn’t brake in the first 5 min.
