Chassis

The Tamiya TRF104 1/10 Electric 2WD Formula-1 Competition Chassis Kit is built for high-performance racing, featuring a premium carbon fiber lower deck that enhances both strength and lightweight agility. The chassis layout has been strategically designed to optimize weight distribution, with the battery pack, receiver, and servo positioned centrally to maintain stability and improve rear grip. The inclusion of a new steering arm design offers improved tuning possibilities with Ackermann adjustments, ensuring precise and responsive handling on the track. Additionally, the TRF104’s sleek and aerodynamic body design is complemented by a rear wing mount option that keeps the wing level even when the rear suspension moves, maximizing downforce for superior traction.

Drivetrain

At the heart of the TRF104’s drivetrain is a smooth ball differential system, which provides efficient power transfer and exceptional cornering stability. The rear differential unit is borrowed from the TRF103 chassis, utilizing a lightweight yet durable carbon fiber shaft that reduces rotational mass, making it well-suited for rubber tires. The motor mount features an innovative design that allows adjustments to both ground clearance and wheelbase, giving racers the flexibility to fine-tune their setup based on track conditions. Five different ground clearance settings in 0.8mm increments, along with two wheelbase options, ensure that the TRF104 remains adaptable and competitive across various racing surfaces.

Suspension

The TRF104 introduces a revolutionary suspension setup that eliminates traditional T-bars and suspension links, instead utilizing centrally mounted ball connectors on the motor plate to control chassis roll. This design enhances stability while allowing for precise tuning through roll dampers and adjustable roll springs located beneath the rear shaft. The front suspension features 2.5mm thick carbon fiber lower arms with two mounting positions for adjustable track width, while the redesigned upper A-arms—reminiscent of the TRF421—allow for easy camber adjustments. With plastic upper arms and an aluminum caster plate offering multiple caster angle settings, the front suspension delivers exceptional grip and responsiveness, making the TRF104 a formidable choice for Formula-1 RC racing enthusiasts.

marc van alan Verified Owner Friday, Jun 20 2025 (3 months ago) Tamiya TRF104 1/10 Electric 2WD Formula-1 Competition Chassis Kit As an F1 enthusiast I always liked the F1 class. I have several chassis including the Schumacher icon2 the Exotek R5 The xray and the roche Evo 3. The tamiya is in my top two chassis at the moment. The R5 and the TRF 104 are the two best formula 1 chassis currently on the market. Of all the chassis they perform the best are the fastest and the most consistent. Where the TRF 104 shines is it’s incredible ease of setup ,it’s amazing fit and finish . it’s actually superior to xray and equal to the Roche and Schumacher as far as build quality goes. What I really like is of all the chassis you really couldn’t feel that much of a difference when making set of changes however the way they design the TR404 is quite amazing you can actually feel the set of changes on the track as you make them a simple caster adjustment made a big difference in how the car turned in where on the other cars it would barely be noticeable. I was skeptable about the new rear pod design but after assembly I really was fascinated at the design and how simple but effective it is. After testing the car it is becoming my new favorite and if you’re interested in formula 1 I would not hesitate to get one. I’m using the Exotek body on mine with a really nice sticker set from Racewayrc. I’m using team Powers pre-mounts soft in the rear and gravity RC premounts in the front and the car feels very well balanced. Chelsea has plenty of room for electronics and the layout is very clean providing easy access. I’m racing on a parking lot track at HobbyTown in Virginia and the performance of this car really shines through. The instruction manual is of high quality with lots of information and some setup info in the rear along with a blank setup sheet.
