Gabriel Baird Monday, Jan 29 2024 (about a year ago) RadioMaster MT12 Express LRS 16-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System w/ER3C-i Receiver (Slightly edited review from the 4-in-1 version)
This radio is AMAZING!!
I initially pre-ordered the 4-in-1 version on Amain, but it was in stock on AliExpress, so I bought it there.
I received it a few days ago and I’m very impressed. It’s quite possibly the most advanced radio under $400 I’ve ever seen or heard of.
It runs EdgeTX (or OpenTX) and it has up to 16 channels. The ExpressLRS version offers better range and latency, while the 4-in-1 version supports most manufacturers’ receivers and standards like STDHSS and D8/16.
The best part is the expandability and all that hardware! It has so many customizable buttons, pots, trims, 3-way switches, you name it. It comes pre installed with a 512MB (yes, MB) memory card and that stores about 60 models in memory. I’m assuming that if you put in a larger card you can get toward of 100 models stored in this radio. Each model can have different settings (e.g, switch actions, RGB lighting, curves) or you can make a function global. It also supports really advanced programming such as curves, graphs, trigger trims, LUA scripts, sound effects, dual/expo rates, etc.
The hardware itself is pretty nice. It’s not Futaba, but it does have Hall effect sensors and adjustable tensions and whatnot. It looks cheaper online than it does in person. It’s a bit on the heavy side though due to the screen and hardware. The wheel and trigger sensors are incredibly smooth and fluid, unlike many RTR radios that use potentiometers and springs. It has a 5000mAh rechargeable 2s battery with XT30 plug. It charges via a USB-C charging board (which connects to the battery via the balance plug). The battery lasts almost a week with daily 1 1/2 hr use, which is very good. Since the plug is universal, it will work with any appropriate sized 2s battery. (There are settings that allow you to use LiFes and LiHVs too).
##UPDATE #1
I have been using this radio with my 8CH TRX-4 with rear steer, TT02 drift car, Traxxas Maxx, and a E-Revo VXL and even a tracked vehicle! (all equipped with aftermarket receivers and telemetry sensors. It works amazingly and has survived multiple ~3ft drops on concrete and light rain. The telemetry capabilities are A++!
##UPDATE #2
I’ve been using it every week or so now for the last 3 months almost. Not a single issue. At all. Battery is phenomenal. EdgeTX support is A+. No unbinding at all.
##UPDATE #3
It now appears that RadioMaster is now selling replacement parts on their website for extremely cheap! You can get mainboards, screens, steering wheels, replacement buttons, etc.
##UPDATE #4
I’ve taken the time to become more of a power user. Now I have launch control (special throttle delay and expo upon a button press to prevent wheelies) and even voice feedback and haptics. It even logs my runs for review at a computer! I could not be happier. And for only about $150, it’s a deal you don’t want to miss. 8 of 9 customers found this review helpful. Duane Schlueter Verified Owner Tuesday, Jun 11 2024 (about a year ago) RadioMaster MT12 Express LRS 16-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System w/ER3C-i Receiver Has more bells and whistles than I needed. Even for an old guy like me I was able to get it programed and operating my NPRC drag car, it will be great once I get it tuned to the car and running great. Can’t beat the price and the quality seems great, thumb wheel is very sensitive and makes scrolling a little difficult. Thank God for all the great video’s out there helping people get this thing figured out. Would be nice if they just made a specific transmitter with the features needed for drag racing, kind of a waste not to be using all the features this thing has. 1 customer found this review helpful. Alexander Faucher Sunday, Aug 3 2025 (8 weeks ago) RadioMaster MT12 Express LRS 16-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System w/ER3C-i Receiver Works. A little on the heavy side but very usable. I’ve got small hands but can use it comfortably. Mine came with a 5000mah battery in the base. SeeVee Verified Owner Wednesday, Jul 23 2025 (2 months ago) RadioMaster MT12 Express LRS 16-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System w/ER3C-i Receiver 2.5 stars. Not sure I made the correct choice as I have been spending TONS of time looking up directions, programming, testing, and NOT getting desired results. BEWARE which receiver you purchase- it seems those w the EPS8285microprocessors (ER3Ci AND 5Ci- both of what I have) are causing throttle runaways. This happened to me on the very FIRST run w my car- full runaway- smashed into a curb- busted up bumper and servo saver horn exploded). YouTube videos can help, but you have to go through all of these steps to setup what SHOULD be pretty simple expectations- a controller that reliably controls your devices. I have cheapo RTR radios that always just work. I’m constantly online looking up directions when all I really want to do is drive my toy cars as a distraction in the day and put a smile on my face. Instead, I’m getting very frustrated and jaded with the ecosystem.
The open source/highly configurable features are attractive and are what finalized my decision, but not sure if it has been “worth the squeeze”. Trying out a different receiver (still can’t nail down whether it is STM32 or ESP32 mp- specs seem very guarded) later this week and HOPING it will work. I’m not giving up on it yet, but kinda wish I went w something more “market established” rather than being a test subject for this open source project. I guess there is a reason the Futabas and NB4+ cost a premium- their research and testing results in more reliable products. I’m not yet giving up, but am growing a bit sullen with my choice and really don’t want to have to buy an additional radio but don’t know if it’s worth busting up $400 plus toy cars just to give this a fair shot. I’m already out $50 on these receivers- and read that others are “throwing them away”. I don’t have that type of disposable income. RM could have put out basic RELIABLE programming to get someone RELIABLY running first, THEN allow the user to go down their own rabbit hole w what they want to program. Channel 5 failsafe should already be programmed- still not sure if I have this setup correctly or not- and the “Quickstart directions” included don’t adequately address many of the hidden req’s that I learned of online trying to trouble shoot this rather than have it ready to go.
Unfortunately, I may have to get a DIFFERENT radio brand just to get stuff to work. Down the road, maybe RM will get basic out of box parameters pre-programmed, but until then… buy at your own risk. 🙁 James Pastorick Jr Verified Owner Tuesday, Jun 3 2025 (4 months ago) RadioMaster MT12 Express LRS 16-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System w/ER3C-i Receiver This is my second time having MT12. I gave the first MT12 with an RC car to a friend. MT12 is really good. I learned that a receiver with an antenna has a longer range than a receiver without an antenna. People who don’t know how to bind a receiver have to plug in the receiver three or four times, and the LED light will be blinking twice until you click BIND in the MT12, and the receiver light will be solid. I am talking about Radiomaster receivers for MT12.
I am surprised the Radiomaster 5000 mAh Li-ion battery is included and it is inside the MT12 battery tray. Ronald Martin Verified Owner Saturday, Mar 2 2024 (about a year ago) RadioMaster MT12 Express LRS 16-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System w/ER3C-i Receiver It comes unbound like on the josh bardwell utube channel… ok if its easy to rebind but unfortunate if its stubborn on race day. Also changes new settings sometimes. It set my throttle max min to 186 -186 … maybe mine has a defect but its been a nightmare 2 of 5 customers found this review helpful. View all reviews
