The price is excellent for a hobby grade, RTR car. The suspension works well, though you really need to go to about a 50w oil in the rear shocks to keep the rear of the car from bouncing. Tires are a good tread for on and off road. I wish they would have just skipped the stickers on the tires, as they fall off quickly anyway. Save a little money on the stickers, and put a better quality spur gear in the car. The stock one has some really nasty flash on it and makes a ton of noise. The lower control arms are VERY flexy, and your toe will change on the rear wheels under power. I did have to shim the rear control arms with a tamiya shock piston to take up the slack.
Overall, it’s a good car for the money. The controller is solid, the car has a separate receiver and ESC. The servo is pretty quick, and even though you can’t adjust any of the alignment points, it seems to track pretty well.
If you want an inexpensive car to introduce someone to the RC hobby, this would work well. 4 customers found this review helpful. I’ve owned and currently own much higher quality RCs, and I’ve never owned anything 2wd. I’ve only got one pack through it but it has been a blast to drive. By far not the fastest rc I have owned, but there’s something about the looks, the handling, and the price point that makes this really fun to drive. The gear box is noisy and not all the plastics seem like they’re going to last forever, but it’s just fun! 4 stars because there are a couple obvious design flaws, like the wiggly rear A arms, but it’s not big deal to fix and for a buggy that looks this cool, is made by a reputable brand, and costs $150 nearly RTR, I’d buy it again so far. 2 customers found this review helpful. So much for so little with upgrade potential enough to keep a beginner and experienced entertained. Hex hardware. Oil shocks. Better than decent radio. Bearings no bushings. Decent tires with the exception of the stickers on the sidewalls.
The motor and spur gear mesh is way too tight. So much it produces an annoying grinding soundtrack when running. Kyosho has to acknowledge this and fix it. My fix was a smaller 25t steel pinion in place of the nylon or plastic 27t pinion in order to get a quieter mesh.
