About the Fazer D2 AE86 Drift Car

    Advanced Electronics for Smooth Drifting

The Fazer D2 comes equipped with cutting-edge electronics that elevate its drift performance. A meticulously designed KRG-331D receiver with a built-in gyro unit ensures precise control over steering and throttle, allowing for effortless drifting. The 60A Kyosho Speed House ESC provides three driving modes including forward, brake, and reverse, while the high-performance KS4072-06W servo works in harmony with the gyro for optimal counter-steer control. Completing the setup is a powerful G22 brushed 540 motor, all mounted to optimize weight distribution for improved stability.

    Adjustable Drift Chassis

Kyosho’s carefully designed drift chassis provides unmatched adjustability and performance. The resin main chassis is divided into front and rear sections, allowing users to modify the wheelbase from 240mm to 274mm. This adaptability ensures compatibility with a variety of body types. The rear drive unit features a rigid spool axle without a differential, enhancing smooth drifting. Adjustable suspension settings, including caster angle and roll center, let users fine-tune handling to their preference.

    Ultra-Realistic Scale Body

Faithful to the iconic Toyota AE86 Trueno, the ultra-scale body on the Fazer D2 showcases meticulous attention to detail. Molded plastic front and rear bumpers, manually retractable headlights**, and detailed light buckets create a visually stunning model. Marcello Biradelli Verified Owner Tuesday, May 20 2025 (4 months ago) Kyosho Fazer FZD2 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 1/10 2WD Brushed RTR Drift Car If you’re looking to get into RC drifting without the hassle of building a kit from scratch, Kyosho’s Ready-to-Run (RTR) Drifter is a fantastic starting point. As for someone coming new to the hobby, I found it to be a smooth and stylish introduction — with a few trade-offs to be aware of.
    What I Liked
Out-of-the-Box Fun: Comes fully assembled and ready to hit the track, making it perfect for beginners or anyone eager to get sliding right away. But will need battery and charger to get fully started.
Stunning Body and Clipless Mounting: The included body is beautifully detailed, and the clipless system is a really nice touch. It reminds me of a 1/10 scale version of Kyosho’s Mini-Z lineup — sleek, clean, and functional.
Adjustable Wheelbase: Flexibility here is great. The chassis supports multiple wheelbases (240mm, 260mm, 273mm), so you’re not limited to just one body style — a big plus as your collection grows.
    Things to Consider
Electronics Feel Basic: The electronics are definitely on the entry-level side. They’re fine for starting out, but don’t expect high-end performance or precision. That said, they’re functional, and for the price, you can’t complain too much.
Tire Swap Recommended for Certain Surfaces: The stock tires are well-suited for outdoor use, where there’s a bit more grip and texture. However, if you’re drifting indoors — especially on slick surfaces like P-tile or polished concrete — I’d definitely recommend swapping to a set of dedicated indoor drift tires to get smoother, more controlled slides. Talk to the track you will be visiting as some may only have certain tires to be used for their surface.
Sticker Over Paint: One thing I didn’t love about the body is that Kyosho used white stickers strips instead of paint on the bumpers and side of the car. which is a bit of a letdown considering the rest of the body looks fantastic, they could have went the small extra mile to have them painted white.
Battery Holder & Body Pin System: The battery holder system can be a bit of a hassle, especially with it using body pin setup. It’s not the most user-friendly design, and it can take a few extra minutes to get the battery on and off each time, id recommend picking up a small bag of body pins as you may loose these. A better system here would’ve been appreciated for quick swaps but I imagine people with 3D printers will come up with items for this. Also I see the clipless body system being quick to break if not careful so be mindful of that.
Upgrades I Made (and Would Recommend)
After some time with the stock electronics, I decided to swap out a few electronics I had laying around from my other drift chassis to improve the car’s performance. Here’s what I changed:
ESC & Motor: I upgraded to the Hobbywing Quickrun 10BL120 G2, which gave me much smoother throttle response and better control. Swapped in a 17.5 Hobbywing Xerun V10 motor
Gyro: The Yokomo V4 gyro was another change I made. It really helps with maintaining control and improving the car’s handling, especially when drifting at higher speeds.
Receiver: I also swapped out the receiver for a spare Futaba receiver I had, so i could use my Futaba 10PX for slightly better control over the gyro and few others.
While I kept the Kyosho servo, I’d highly recommend upgrading it as well. I found that something like the Yokomo SP-02D (or something in that price range) would provide better performance, especially when it comes to steering precision.
With these upgrades (minus the servo), the car was a night-and-day difference — it drove much smoother, easier, and overall more enjoyable.
    Price Thoughts
At its original MSRP of $239.99, it was an excellent value. But at the current $284.99, it’s creeping into a price range where you’ll find RTR kits from more established drift-specific brands. At that level, you’re potentially looking at better electronics or chassis with more aftermarket support.
    Final Verdict
Kyosho really delivered on presentation and accessibility here. The body is a standout, the clipless system is genuinely useful, and the adjustable wheelbase adds long-term value. While the electronics and tires might eventually need upgrading, and the body mounting system could use some refinement, this RTR still offers a great foundation for newcomers or casual drifters. Just be mindful of the driving surface and don’t be afraid to tweak your setup to suit it.

Jim Verified Owner Tuesday, Sep 9 2025 (3 weeks ago) Kyosho Fazer FZD2 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 1/10 2WD Brushed RTR Drift Car I was excited when I first saw this AE86 RC drift car came out because I am a big fan of the anime Initial D. When I got it , I was disappointed. First, the body mount system is probably one of the worst. It’s flimsy and the front could easily come off. Second, the front steering is weak and all cheap plastics. Third, it comes with a giant outdated radio that’s probably the biggest one on the market today. And final and it’s probably the worst, the headlight. The pop up headlight is one of the favorite features of this car for most people. The light kit is junk so I double sided the mini servo to the body. On yes, on the top of that you have to trim it so that it could open properly. Talk about poor engineer. Kyosho has always been one of my favorite RC company but this one is a one star product. tacogalactic Verified Owner Tuesday, May 27 2025 (4 months ago) Kyosho Fazer FZD2 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 1/10 2WD Brushed RTR Drift Car Oh boy is this a fun drift car! Kyosho did their homework with this and somehow managed to squeeze everything needed into an affordable and very good looking drift car.
It has it’s ups and downs.
Ups include the price, the adjustable wheelbase, the gorgeous AE86 body with popup headlights, the RTR nature, and the ease of operation.
Downs include the factory ‘throttle gyro’ being on, the strangely slow steering if you want to use more gyro, the tires shred quickly on pavement.
Honestly this car out of the box is super fun, with a few basic changes is outstanding, and with a few upgrades is awesome sauce.
I have since replaced the receveier/gyro combo, changed to a smaller pinion and motor for my slick floor, and I put on tires I liked for my surface. But it’s been so darn fun, I could have left it stock.
The price is what surprised me the most. It’s priced like it’s a budget car but it has features of a nicer drift car.
To use the popup headlights, all you really need is a small servo and some double-sided tape under the hood. And for lights, there are some amazing light kits here on AMain that could be your next purchase.
bonus up for how easily it just bounces off things without damage or shut down. If you are new to drifting or a seasoned drifter, this car has your name on it. Maybe. 😀 1 of 2 customers found this review helpful. Robert Edgar Verified Owner Tuesday, May 20 2025 (4 months ago) Kyosho Fazer FZD2 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 1/10 2WD Brushed RTR Drift Car I really like what Kyosho has here with the D2. It has a fantastic looking Toyota body Initial D oh yeah. The adjustability of the chassis to accommodate different wheel bases on different car shells is way cool. The electronics all work great so far. No problems with either receiver/gyro, esc or steering servo. The brush motor runs great and has plenty of power. The brake rotors and calipers are cool looking. The radio seems pretty good no problems. Tires work great on a outdoor basketball court surface. All in all Kyosho knocked it out of the park with this car. Certainly recommend it for beginners and anyone else looking to start drifting. 1 of 2 customers found this review helpful. Edward Ling Verified Owner Monday, May 19 2025 (4 months ago) Kyosho Fazer FZD2 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 1/10 2WD Brushed RTR Drift Car Amazing RTR for the price ($240 before tariffs). Scale details are great, and it performs very well. I also think the transmitter that comes with is really nice with how comfortable and adjustable it all is (I don’t have a really nice futaba to compare). I know experienced drifters don’t like that the gyro also controls the throttle, but it is tunable and you can turn the gain down to zero.
One minor complaint is that there’s no text on the sides of the body (I’m guessing licensing) but I found some decals on etsy for cheap, I also got a scale carbon fiber vinyl sheet for the hood. Another thing is that I don’t like how Kyosho holds the battery. They use 2 encaps that affix with body pins, so it can be tricky getting the pins on and off to remove or install the battery (I put small zip-ties on the pins to grab onto them better). I also bought the suggested battery for this car, the ecopower “trail” 2S. I found that either plastic end-cap that hold the battery doesn’t have the right cut-outs for the battery wires, so before I even ran it I was taking a dremel and knife to some of the plastic. Not a huge issue, and with a few cuts the cap doesn’t interfere with the battery wires. Overall I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to get into drifting with a really nice scale-ish build already done. 1 of 2 customers found this review helpful. View all reviews
