I’ve been through so many buggy chargers from Amazon, glad to finally get one that seems to have solid software. And the voltages are accurate. One thing that is interesting is that it defaults to 3.85 as the standard storage charge for LiPos, and 3.9 for LiHV. This is actually in the range for what manufacturers recommend but is different than every other charger I have owned. From what I understood, there is a lot of risk charging batteries correctly and I was worried about getting a safe but good solution that would allow me to charge several batteries at the same time. Many of the solutions suggested by the experienced racers, such as iChargers, were complex and expensive.
The Hitec RDX4 is a good balance of price and capability. The charging is probably slower than some of the more advanced chargers but it hasn’t been an issue for stock racing. The UI is fast enough for most purposes but you can use the app if that doesn’t work well for you. It’s also small enough to easily carry back and forth from races. If you don’t need to charge 4 batteries at the same time, you can get away with the RDX2 800.
It’s kind of hard to find in the manual but this takes XT60 with the standard balance leads. If you’re using shorty bullet batteries, like the Protek 6400mah, you’ll need XT60 to 5mm. There are lots of brands that offer these, such as Tekin or RLPower.
I charge at 10A, which is about 1.5C. The batteries I’m using could probably take a little more but because these don’t get drained down deeply with the cars I’m currently racing, the process is generally quick. I can’t comment on the quality of battery life management, as I haven’t been doing this long enough.
