The Best Ultra Micro Trainer RC Airplane is Back!
Many people today who enjoy the hobby of RC airplanes started with a HobbyZone Champ. The Champ is under 250g, meaning no FAA registration is required to get out and enjoy this classic plane. Learn to fly like a Champ or just relive the glory days of micro foam trainer planes!
About the Champ
Airframe
The Champ is made from a durable EPS foam material, the rigid construction and slow nature of this trainer ensure that you can quickly get back in the air in the event of a crash. The elevator and rudder can be fine-adjusted by pinching or expanding the U-shaped rod on the control surface. If you are able to damage this mighty little plane, grab some foam-safe CA glue and slap this plane back together.
Electronics
The linear servos ensure solid movement to your control surfaces for dependable flight. The coreless motor delivers ample power to let you fly from mild to wild. You may notice that the prop is angled down and to the right (from the perspective of the pilot). This is no accident, HobbyZone added this to counteract the rotational forces of the propeller, giving you a plane that wants to track straight in the air. Bind your Spektrum transmitter to this plane and get out to fly!
Beginner Mode
In this flight mode, the airplane has pitch (up/down) and bank (left/right) angle limits that prevent overcontrol, which could lead to a loss of orientation and crashes. When the control sticks are released, the airplane automatically returns to level flight, allowing you to relax and enjoy simply “steering” the aircraft through the sky. Best of all, takeoffs are as simple as giving full throttle and letting the airplane fly off a suitable surface or giving it a quick hand launch, and landings are as easy as lowering the throttle and letting it glide to a landing on its own.
Experienced Mode
This flight mode has no pitch or bank angle limits, so you have complete control! You can even perform basic aerobatic maneuvers, including loops, stall turns, and more. From experience, the best way to loop is to get a little altitude, push the stick forward and go into a shallow dive. Build a little speed and then pull the stick back all the way. The plane will loop effortlessly.
